The authors observe that more and more often on library websites there are tabs with links to virtual exhibitions, however this topic is rarely covered in the national literature therefore they decided to deal with this issue. The article provides the definition of virtual exhibitions and outlines their advantages. It discusses e-exhibitions organised in the Main Library of the University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Also it addresses the lack of a nationwide database registering exhibitions available on the Internet.Autorki zauważając, że coraz częściej na stronach internetowych bibliotek umieszczane są zakładki z linkami do prezentacji wystaw wirtualnych oraz że temat ten jest dość rzadko spotykany w publikacjach postanowiły zająć się tym zagadnieniem. Tyt. z nagłówka.Bibliogr. s. 124.Dostępny również w formie drukowanej.STRESZCZENIE: W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy cytowań artykułów zamieszczonych na łamach kwartalnika AGH Geologia, uwzględniając jego wcześniejsze formy wydawnicze (Zeszyty Naukowe AGH seria Geologia, Kwartalnik Geologia, Zeszyty Specjalne i Rozprawy oraz Rozprawy, Monografie o tematyce geologicznej). Badania przeprowadzono, wykorzystując bazę Science Citation Index Expanded za lata 1975-2006. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na analizę liczby publikacji i cytowań w aspekcie chronologicznym. Obliczono współczynnik cytowalności w poszczególnych latach. Uzyskane wyniki przedstawiono w formie tabelarycznej i graficznej. Stwierdzono, że najwięcej cytowań dotyczyło prac opublikowanych w latach 80. i na początku lat 90. Ustalono prace najczęściej cytowane. Wskazano również błędy występujące w bazie, utrudniające lub wręcz uniemożliwiające identyfikację cytowanych prac. Zasugerowano rozwiązania mogące wpłynąć na podniesienie wskaźnika cytowalności omawianego czasopisma. ABSTRACT: The article presents the results of a citation analysis of articles published in Geologia (AGH quarterly). Previous publication forms of the journal (Zeszyty Naukowe AGH series Geologia, Kwartalnik Geologia, Zeszyty Specjalne, Rozprawy and Rozprawy, Monografie focusing on geological topics) were included in the analysis. The research was done with the use of the Science Citation Index Expanded database (data from 1975 to 2006). Special attention was paid to the number of publications and citations in the chronological aspect. The citation factor for individual years was calculated. The data regarding articles, citations and self-citations were presented in a graphic format. It was ascertained that the highest number of citations concerned articles published in the 1980s and at the beginning of the 1990s. Publications most frequently cited were indicated. Errors in the database, hindering or precluding the identification of cited publications, were pointed out. Solutions which could increase the citation factor of the analysed journal were suggested. Technical university students’ needs and knowledge on electronic information sources. A questionnaire survey of students of the AGH University Main Library

Nowe technologie zmieniły sposób pozyskiwania informacji, a co za tym idzie – zdobywania wiedzy. Efektywne wykorzystanie e-zasobów wymaga odpowiedniej wiedzy i umiejętności. W artykule omówiono wyniki badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego na grupie studentów – użytkowników Biblioteki Głównej Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej w Krakowie. Badanie miało na celu ustalenie m. in. znajomości zasobów elektronicznych, czynników, które decydują o wyborze danego źródła, problemów, które użytkownicy napotykają przy korzystaniu z e-zasobów. Wypowiedzi i sugestie respondentów dostarczyły wielu informacji, które będą pomocne na przykład przy planowaniu kolejnych szkoleń oraz szerszej promocji źródeł elektronicznych wśród studentów.New technologies have changed the way of retrieving information, and in the result, of gaining knowledge. The effective use of e-resources requires sufficient knowledge and skills. The article analyses the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in a group of students, the users of the AGH University Main Library. The aim of this research was, among others, to establish the level of knowledge of electronic sources, the factors considered by users when selecting a source, and problems encountered by students using e-resources. The respondents’ comments and suggestions have brought a lot of information, which will be helpful for example when planning subsequent training sessions, and in wider promotion of electronic resources among students

A Student as a Library Patron? The Role of the Library in the Teaching Process of a University in the Light of Surveys

This article discusses the results of an online survey conducted in 2016 among university students in Cracow. The survey included students of the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Jagiellonian University. Its aim was to verify students’ expectations of academic libraries and also to try and get an idea of trends in the perception of the role and significance of libraries in university teaching. Some changes – for example a decrease in student interest in traditional library services in favour of free space development – have already been observed by the librarian community and have merely been confirmed by the findings of the survey.W artykule omówiono wyniki ankiety internetowej, przeprowadzonej w 2016 roku, a skierowanej do studentów uczelni krakowskich. Ostatecznie badaniem objęto ankiety studentów dwóch uczelni: Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej i Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Założeniem badania było sprawdzenie oczekiwań studenckich wobec bibliotek naukowych i próba uchwycenia tendencji w zakresie roli i znaczenia bibliotek w procesie dydaktycznym w szkole wyższej. Niektóre zmiany, na przykład mniejsze zainteresowanie tradycyjnymi usługami bibliotecznymi na rzecz swobodnego zagospodarowania przestrzeni przez studentów, były już obserwowane przez środowisko bibliotekarskie, chodziło o ich potwierdzenie opiniami bezpośrednio zainteresowanych

Results from a survey among Polish academic librarie

The LHCb upgrade I

The LHCb upgrade represents a major change of the experiment. The detectors have been almost completely renewed to allow running at an instantaneous luminosity five times larger than that of the previous running periods. Readout of all detectors into an all-software trigger is central to the new design, facilitating the reconstruction of events at the maximum LHC interaction rate, and their selection in real time. The experiment's tracking system has been completely upgraded with a new pixel vertex detector, a silicon tracker upstream of the dipole magnet and three scintillating fibre tracking stations downstream of the magnet. The whole photon detection system of the RICH detectors has been renewed and the readout electronics of the calorimeter and muon systems have been fully overhauled. The first stage of the all-software trigger is implemented on a GPU farm. The output of the trigger provides a combination of totally reconstructed physics objects, such as tracks and vertices, ready for final analysis, and of entire events which need further offline reprocessing. This scheme required a complete revision of the computing model and rewriting of the experiment's software
